The Vasari Corridor - exclusive opening

The Vasari Corridor (from the Uffizi Gallery to Palazzo Pitti).
The Vasari Corridor Group Guided Tour. Experience the exclusive guided visit of the elevated enclosed passageway which connects the Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti, in the other side of the river (Oltrarno district), passing through the Uffizi Gallery and over the Ponte Vecchio. You will have the privilege to walk through the suggestive passageway, following the footsteps of the “Prince’s itinerary”. It was commissioned on the occasion of the wedding between Francis I and Joan of Austria and built with the idea of giving Florence a precious jewel. It was motivated by the Grand Duke's desire to move freely between his residence and the government palace as passing through the streets could be dangerous and dirty. You will instantly be hit by a deep sense of emotion: the corridor is a royal passageway that runs over the heads of the citizens of Florence. You will be dazzled to discover a superb collection of paintings and a row of round windows of the aerial passageway offering breathtaking views over the hills, the Arno river, its bridges, the palaces and churches of the city. You will admire the magnificent collection of artists’ self-portraits from Vasari to Italian and foreign artists of the 20th century. A face to face encounter with artists that doesn’t exist in any other museum in the world, a discovery that will print an indelible memory of Florence in your mind forever.
Large umbrellas will not be allowed at the Uffizi Gallery. Clients will have to store the umbrellas in the museum locker previous entering the Gallery. For this reason we suggest you to bring with you small umbrellas only.
With immediate effect, the Directorate of the Uffizi Gallery has suspended visits to the Vasari Corridor.
This decision was initiated by the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade following a petition on the current security state of the site, presented in the past months to the Prefecture and following the subsequent inspection of the fire brigade.
